The project brief was to redesign and restore a historic boardroom for USDAW, the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers.
To maintain the period elements of this room, we reupholstered the chairs and restored and repaired the room’s wall cabinets. The restoration of the cabinets encouraged USDAW staff to explore their archives and display the best of their collection in this space. The room’s fireplace and its figurines were also restored and repaired.
We then sought to improve the functionality of the space by introducing access to today’s technology and introducing new furniture where required. We achieved this by introducing LED lighting, which ensures that the room can be appropriately lit for its varying functions, as well as being environmentally conscious. A new table was designed in line with the room’s historical image, whilst providing essential access to technology.
